The fastest production car in the world is now a Koenigsegg

The Koenigsegg Agera RS has exceeded the world record for mass-produced road vehicles that Bugatti previously held. In the Nevada desert, the car reached 447 km / h.

Christian von Koenigsegg started to build the perfect sports car. Of course, it cannot be that anyone else holds records that belong to the DNA of a super sports car. The Swede Koenigsegg has now made a major correction and broke five new world records with his Agera RS in a single day in the Nevada desert.

The most important of these is the one that is considered the absolute top speed of a production car. And that is the average of two trips on the same route within a short time, once in each direction. A Bugatti Veyron has held the best record for an endlessly long seven years, achieving 431 km / s in this discipline. Koenigsegg set the record to almost 447 km / h.

Route profile and wind are taken into account

On a lonely road between cacti in a dusty desert landscape, works driver Niklas Lilja even reached speed 457 with the Agera RS in the first pass. The entire route went slightly downhill. Because such conditions and possible wind influence should be compensated for, the top speed on the way back is also measured, and that was a good 436. All in all, the old Bugatti record was already clearly exceeded.

The Agera achieved another best performance on the same day in the "0-400-0" discipline. It took 33.29 seconds to accelerate to 400 km / h and slow down to a standstill. Just two months ago, a Chiron had reached a value of around 42 seconds here.

The ancient record of the “Silver Arrow” also exceeded

Among the three other records, one is still noteworthy because it surpasses an almost 80-year-old record. In 1938, Rudolf Caracciola in a Mercedes W125 achieved an incredible 432.7 km / h over a flying kilometer on a public road. The "silver arrow" was slightly modified compared to the version for the race track, especially with a full fairing. The Koenigsegg now reached 444.7 km / h.

The Agera RS can not keep up with the successor of the Veyron, the Bugatti Chiron, and its 1,500 hp in terms of engine performance, but the 5-liter V8 still produces just under 1,180 hp.

Only 25 pieces are built

In addition to sophisticated aerodynamics, additional downforce is required to make the car into a plane during the tremendous acceleration: the dynamic rear wing ensures that the 1.3-ton car presses onto the asphalt at 250 kph with almost half a ton of extra weight becomes. In addition, there are the extremely wide tires, which measure a good half a meter in the back and only marginally less in the front. And because the tires are extremely important at such speeds, the equipment includes an electronic control system for everyone.

The price of the car, in which even the handmade carpets are made of leather, can only be found out if you are very seriously interested in a copy. But it is clear that it is well over a million euros. In total, only 25 are built anyway, and ten of them were sold before the first prototype could be seen, according to the manufacturer.

It's almost unbelievable that this bullet uses up normal fuel. But it is a car and one that is approved for road use in every country in the world.
