The future of cars: CES 2020

The future of cars was presented to the public during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020. In fact, the new frontiers of the automotive sector were exhibited in Las Vegas.

The aim of the ESC is to show what mobility could be like in the future. Here, electronics are applied to cars, commercial vehicles, and city infrastructure. In particular, the focus falls on the digital security of onboard systems and the connection between smartphones and vehicles.

Several prototypes for a possible future for cars were seen at the show. Some of the various models are presented below.

Sony engages in automobile production

Among the various car manufacturers, the well-known multinational entertainment company Sony has also presented its own car model, the Vision-S.

The car 33 is equipped with sensors that allow facilitating the guidance by identifying obstacles and by measuring the distances. The vehicle is also equipped with an autonomous driving of level 2, thanks to which it can brake and accelerate by itself, although the guide remains mainly to the driver.

The car is also innovative in the interior, since with a single screen, however, divided into 3 panels: one for the driver that contains the information of driving, one central and one for the passenger. There are also 2 side monitors that replace the mirrors, taking up the exterior of the car. The rear seats are also equipped with tablets so that passengers can freely watch movies and listen to music.

The Sony brand is therefore affirmed in the choice of entertainment, strictly coming from the multinational's repertoire.

The car has not been tested on the road, therefore the values ​​that are provided by Sony relating to speed and range are not really ascertained.

For Audi, the future of cars starts with the interior revolution

To the lounge Audi show, the AI: Me model is bigger and more comfortable than ever.

The car is equipped with an autonomous driving of level 4, which makes it able to accelerate, brake, and steer yourself to reach your destination.

Inside the passenger compartment, there is a wooden dashboard, which can be used as a desk a once autonomous driving has been activated. It is therefore not fixed but easily movable while driving.

Mercedes presents the transparent car

The Vision AVTR model from Mercedes is characterized by the glass and transparent surfaces that allow the driver to maintain one elevated view of the environment.

The car consists of 4 different electric motors connected directly to the wheels. The latter, inclinable up to 30 degrees, allowing the car to move even in diagonal.

The novelties in the guide also include the use of a joypad to replace the traditional steering wheel.

It is important to emphasize that these cars will not be on the market soon since they are only prototypes presented with the aim of pushing innovation one step further.
